The W2 Foundation ‘An Irish Night in London’, was held on Friday 26th February 2016, the eve of the England v Ireland RBS 6 Nations Championship match 2016. The night was a celebration of the Irish in London, of the rivalries and friendships between the two teams and the two countries.
An exceptional display of entertainment and performances ensued with MC Martin Bayfield at the helm. Rugby favourites Keith Wood, Brian O’Driscoll, Martin Johnson and Paul O’Connell took part in rugby discussions and musical performances by Diane Daly of the Irish Chamber Orchestra and Bob Geldof & the Boomtown Rats entertained guests.
Charlie Ross set the fundraising auction alight with all proceeds raised at the event going directly to the W2 Foundation which supports Sport, Community, Education and Rugby Player Welfare. A momentous amount of funds, over £250,000 was raised and pledged on the evening. Awarding beneficiaries will be announced in the coming months.
“An Irish Night in London’ was all that I wished it could be. It was a rare evening and although we planned for it to be a good night we could not plan for all the guests to buy into the idea so wholeheartedly. The sense of fun was everywhere and I hope you got to meet new people and reengaged with some old friends”
